Tragic tales can make nice fossils Silvabestius is a diprotodontoid marsupial that lived near the end of the Palaeogene period (Oligocene epoch, about 23-33 million years ago). It’s famously known from the skull of an adult and a juvenile that were found fossilised together. These were interpreted to be a mother and joey, which gives the specimens a certain poignancy.
